It is located beneath the Cliff's Edge Hotel, on Mount Desert Island. Vault 118 is one of the Vaults constructed by the Vault-Tec Corporation. The reward from Maxwell is the same either way, and note that you get a double XP reward for completing 'Brain Dead' and 'Brain Dead, Part 2', but the 500 extra Pre-War Money you get from killing the murderer makes for a nice bonus. Loot him for 500 more Pre-War Money, then report back to Maxwell. Far Harbor, the official DLC put out by Bethesda, features a quest called 'Brain Dead,' in which players are called to a vault inhabited by robots in order to solve a mysterious murder.
